N801 type crossover build for 878B Santiagos

In terms of AMD, can a relatively low sensitivity LF driver in an enclosure designed with the correct amount of acoustical damping perform as well as a high sensitivity driver in the appropriate cab for it?

No doubt the low efficiency driver will require an order of magnitude more power to produce the same SPL to overcome enclosure damping and cone mass. I’m sure there are other deficiencies to consider as well.

Surprisingly I don’t notice my 411B cones moving when they’re playing the lower octaves. Good to know that the absence of cone movement can be a good thing

Of course! It just means it won't play as loud [less dynamic headroom] or if it can handle more power to make up for it can't be used as high in the HF.

Hmm, it should unless the signal doesn't go low at a high enough level and/or you listen at a low SPL and/or the signal is highly compressed and/or there's a cab leak with this being fairly common IME with Altec's consumer cabs.

Finished and installed the left crossover and recapping the 30904 today.

Been listening and tweaking a bit. I would say this build was well worth the effort. Much smoother mid range and the bass sounds nice and firm.

Unfortunately the listening room is not well suited for speaker positioning. The left is probably too close to the side wall and right side wall is a fair distance from the other. But I am surprised how well they work in this irregularly shaped room. I?m in desperate need of a man cave with heat for the next project. Very interesting treads here on A7s and MLTLs. For now I play around and see if it gets better with bi-amping.

^Exactly! A waste of space. Used 5 times a year (maybe). A couple of card tables and fold up chairs could easily do the job when needed
